Northwest Trail Runs

Fort Ebey Kettles Trail Run is a Whidbey Island weekend of rolling, surprisingly punchy trail running through Fort Ebey State Park. The routes wind through forested ‘kettle’ depressions formed by glacial ice, with frequent twists and turns and a smoother trail surface than many Northwest courses. All distances include a stretch along the scenic bluff-top trail with wide views across the Strait of Juan de Fuca toward the Olympic Mountains — a salty-air, big-sky backdrop that makes this race a local favorite.

The Teanaway Trail Run heads to Teanaway Community Forest near Cle Elum — a sunny, ponderosa pine-filled valley with a distinctly east-side feel. Teanaway was purchased by Washington State in 2013 and set up with a community-forest model designed to protect the land while giving local groups a voice in its management. The course follows primarily dirt logging roads plus some smaller trails through scattered forest and meadows, past sandstone slabs, with chances to catch a peek of Mt. Stuart along the way. It’s a runnable, rolling spring trail race that rewards steady pacing.

The Middle Fork Trail Run explores the river-valley trails outside North Bend, Washington, starting at the Middle Fork Trailhead and using the Middle Fork and CCC trails. The routes follow river valleys with modest climbing, with a few meanders up and down the valley slope. Expect lush forest and old-growth character, views of cliffs and rugged mountain slopes, and steady glimpses of the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River. The event is Trail Sisters Approved and includes youth-friendly options.
